Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrate 11 years of their marriage.
The couple finally tied the knot in a grand ceremony at Westminster Abbey after dating for ten years.
Kate wowed in a stunning Sarah Burton wedding dress for Alexander McQueen, which she wore alongside the Cartier Halo tiara, reports the Mirror.
Crowds lined the streets to mark the big day, going wild as the newlyweds shared two kisses on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
Now, 11 years later, we’re revisiting some of Cambridge’s wedding day memories. Let’s see how much you remember!
Kate shares touching moment with dad
The day before her big day, Kate stayed at the Goring Hotel near Buckingham Palace.
She made the trip by car with her father Michael, who then walked her down the driveway.
As the couple were on their way to the wedding, the Express reports that Kate had some touching words for her father.
Royal author Katie Nicholl explained: “When her father looked like he was about to falter on their journey to the abbey, Kate had pleaded: ‘Please dad, don’t cry. It will also trigger me.
“She had only managed a bite of toast that morning and had been up for six hours, but Kate didn’t once let her emotion get the better of her.”
Prince Harry’s Warning
While Kate was on her way, Will was waiting at Westminster Abbey with Prince Harry, who was his best man.
As the bride walked down the aisle, Will stuck to tradition and looked forward.
But Harry was there to let his brother know how beautiful Kate was.
According to the 2013 book Kate: A Biography, Harry told William, “Well, she’s here now.”
He then said of his sister-in-law, “Well, she’s gorgeous, I can tell you that.”
When Kate arrived at the altar, Will clearly agreed with Harry on that point, telling Kate, “You look beautiful.”
Watching Will and Kate get married, Will’s grandparents, the Queen, and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.
The day went perfectly, with the Queen turning to her husband and saying “it was excellent”, according to a lip reader.
But there were some parts of the day that the queen said could have been done differently.
“I wanted them to take the smaller car,” she said, according to CBS News, before Camilla said, “Everything went really well.”
The Queen replied, “Very well.”
William leaves the handbrake on
The newlyweds cruised the mall together in Prince Charles’ Aston Martin.
Unfortunately, nervousness may have got the better of William, who did not release the handbrake before setting off.
The brake was then activated for the entire journey between Buckingham Palace and Clarence House.
Prince Harry speech
At the reception following the ceremony, best man Harry took on the responsibility of entertaining guests with a speech about the happy couple.
Although best man speeches can sometimes be a bit close to the bone, Harry’s girlfriend at the time, Chelsy Davy, was reportedly on hand to get him to cut a line from his ‘killer legs’ speech. from Kate.
Donning a fez, Harry said William didn’t have ‘a romantic bone in his body’ until he met Kate – and made her feel like calling her ‘Babykins’.
The speech went well, leaving Kate in tears.
An unusual cake
Not content with just one traditional wedding cake, William also requested a second cake for the reception.
It was his favorite, a chocolate chip cookie.
William specifically requested the unbaked cake, which came with a traditional tiered fruitcake baked by luxury baker Fiona Cairns.
The cookie cake was made by McVitie’s, to a secret royal recipe.
The ingredients included 1,700 crushed Rich Tea cookies and nearly 40 pounds of dark chocolate.
For the evening, Kate donned a second Alexander McQueen dress.
The evening was hosted by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace, where the happy couple danced together to the Grease classic You’re the One That I Want.
“Everyone was clapping wildly,” one guest said.
The first dance to Ellie Goulding’s rendition of Elton John’s Your Song lasted 30 seconds after William told her to go to a faster number.
