Rail services between Suffolk and Norfolk have been canceled as firefighters tackle a blaze near the tracks.

Fire crews are currently at the scene of the fire near Burnt Hill Lane.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said: “Five acres of meadows, hedgerows and railway embankments were well lit.

“Firefighters have now extinguished the main blaze and crews remain on site to cushion the embankment.”

Posting on Twitter, Greater Anglia said: “Due to a fire alongside the tracks between Beccles and Outlon Broad South, the line is blocked.

“Train services through these stations may be delayed or revised.

“Disruptions are expected until further notice.”

The call comes after the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service yesterday said its first major incident years after being called to dozens of incidents, many of which were open fires.

An eyewitness said: “The fire is in a field between Burnt Hill Lane and Ivy House Country Hotel.”
